Summary[]

During a rest period at Project Tic-Toc, a lone scientist, Dr. Stiles, is on duty and watches on the Tunnel's view-screen as Tony Newman and Doug Phillips tumble into the Grand Canyon, Arizona, in 1547. Meanwhile, a saboteur creeps into Tunnel Control and shoots Dr Stiles in the back. Stiles falls across the controls on his console, which causes the Tunnel to go haywire. On the view-screen, Newman and Phillips fall to the ground and start writhing in pain. The saboteur then opens a nearby computer panel and inserts a mysterious device, then flees after the alarm is sounded as Stiles fails to respond to a security check-in. Lt. Gen. Heywood Kirk, Dr. Raymond Swain and Dr. Ann MacGregor return to their posts and manage to get the Time Tunnel back under control, returning Newman and Phillips to normal.

The saboteur attempts to escape but is chased back to Tunnel Control, where he grabs Swain, using him as a shield, then runs into the activated Time Tunnel to be transported to the same time and place where Newman and Phillips are still recovering. Once security at Project Tic-Toc starts an investigation, they find that the saboteur is an employee by the name of Raul Nimon. Orders from a foreign power were found in his quarters to take a leave of absence the next day and to plant a nuclear device that will go off and destroy the complex. Project Tic-Toc makes voice contact with Newman and Phillips, advising them that Nimon should be in the area and to try to find out any information about the bomb. Nimon briefly appears, but just as quickly vanishes back into the time vortex as Newman and Phillips approach him. Viewing this, the team back at Project Tic-Toc switch the time travelers to Nimon's new location in time.

A Million Years From Now

Tony and Doug meet Vokar, a man of the future.

While Sgt. Jiggs and his security team search the Tic-Toc complex for the bomb, Kirk tries to convince the Tunnel Control personnel to evacuate but they refuse. Meanwhile, Newman and Phillips arrive in some future location, where they are immediately arrested by a man with silver-skin and futuristic clothing called Vokar. They are placed in quarters, sealed by a force field and advised that they will be found suitable work. A golden skinned female worker named Zee brings them something to eat and tells the time travelers that a man who looks like them (as the humans in this time period all seem to have silver or gold skin) arrived in this society ten years previously. Newman and Phillips surmise that Nimon must have hit a time warp to arrive way before they did. Sure enough, when they are brought to a laboratory where Nimon is using his stolen blue-prints to construct a time machine. He tells Newman and Phillips that Project Tic-Toc was blown up a million years before.

A Man From Their Own Time

The time travelers confront Nimon.

Newman and Phillips are horrified to find that Zee is to be used as a guinea pig in a time travel experiment and get into a fight with their guards, allowing Zee to escape. Having been subdued, the time travelers are returned to their quarters where they are encouraged to escape after brief voice contact with Project Tic-Toc. After breaking out, the time travelers storm the lab and use Nimon as a shield in order not to be subdued from Vokar’s stun-gun. At Project Tic-Toc, power builds to transfer Newman, Phillips and Nimon. However, a power surge causes Vokar and Zee to be transferred along with Newman, Phillips and Nimon. The whole group is flung back in time to a prehistoric jungle where they are confronted by dinosaurs.

Nimon falls into quicksand and is rescued by Newman and Phillips. Just as the spy is about to reveal the location of the bomb, Vokar arrives and silences him, thus dooming Project Tic-Toc and, in turn, condemning the time travelers to an existence in the year 1,000,000 B.C. Fate intervenes when after a confrontation with more dinosaurs, Vokar is injured. Phillips gains Vokar's trust when he refuses to leave him behind and they go in search of Newman, Zee and Nimon, who has escaped again. All five fall into a giant bee hive where it is Vokar who forces Nimon to reveal the location of the bomb. The information is relayed to Project Tic-Toc just in time, and the bomb is made safe. As the giant bees start to return to their hive, the Tunnel switches Newman and Phillips back into the vortex. There is just enough power to transfer Vokar and Zee too, but they are unable to save Nimon, who is left to his fate.

Background information/trivia[]

  • The audience is left to wonder where the Time Tunnel sent Vokar and Zee, leaving the door open for a potential sequel that, sadly, never happened.
  • Vitina Marcus also played Princess Sarit in the episode "Attack of the Barbarians."
