Season 3 title card

The third season of Lost in Space consisted of 24 episodes (the shortest season of all) and aired from September 6, 1967 through March 6, 1968. The episodes were aired wildly out of production order, as evidenced by Penny's fluctuating hair length and whether or not the Jupiter 2 was on a planet each week.

Background information[]

  • While the action in seasons one and two usually took place on the surface of a planet, many of this season's adventures took place in space.
  • The opening sequence was changed, as well as the theme music, composed by John Williams.
  • A small spaceship named the Space Pod was introduced this season.
  • Filming of some special effects shots took place over the broadcast break between seasons 2 and 3 as evidenced by these photos of the crew preparing a shot of the Jupiter 2 miniature landing on yet another desert planet.
  • A scrapped story was to have had the Robinsons meet a character played by James Darren who related his story via flashback. This was instead turned into a short pilot for The Man from the 25th Century.
