Summary[]
Tumbling out of the time vortex, Tony Newman and Doug Phillips find themselves in a burning hot desert. They are quickly approached by several people on horseback. After Tony resists them, he gets shot by one of the men and is left for dead; Doug is then taken prisoner by the men.
As it turns out, Tony was only grazed. His found by the soon-to-be famous writer Rudyard Kipling. It turns out that he and Doug were transported to British India on the border of Afghanistan in 1886. A rebel, Hira Singh, is planning an attack on the nearby British fort, which Tony and Doug must reunite to try to warn the British fort and convince them to attack the rebels first in order to succeed.
Meanwhile, Project Tic-Toc has totally lost contact with Tony and Doug, fearing that they may be dead.
Background information[]
- This was the first episode where contact was totally lost with Tony and Doug during a lot of the show. Project Tic-Toc repeatedly checked and rechecked everything, figuring one possibility was they could not regain viewer contact with them due to Tony and Doug being dead. Ann MacGregor and Jerry refused to believe this though, which, with Jerry’s and Heywood Kirk’s urging (Raymond Swain was against it), they could try bypassing the breaker system and send a concentrated surge into the Tunnel in hopes of regaining contact. This was ruled out though (as contact with Tony and Doug could be lost forever if the Time Tunnel is damaged beyond repair in case this action was tried and failed, which MacGregor pointed out), but Jerry was able to sneak in the bypass, restoring full power to the Time Tunnel’s viewing system and finding that Newman and Phillips were indeed still alive.
- A long shot of the Time Tunnel originally shown in the pilot is used again here, showing a fuller view of the control complex.
